Educational Projects - Casting Sets
A number of apprentice schemes, schools and colleges all over the world use our casting sets to help teach engineering. Each kit offers a variety of challenges for students, who are able to develop a wide range of machining skills from the construction of even the simplest model.

An approach that works well with our simpler engines, is for an organisation to purchase a number of identical models. A class of students will then learn various key engineering skills through machining their own model, for example turning, milling, marking out and drilling. We are able to supply construction manuals for a number of our engines, which consist of step-by-step guides to machining the model. A complete set of castings together with a construction manual makes an ideal introduction to engineering.

A popular option for a group planning to build one of our larger engines, is to work on the model as a team with each person taking responsibility for producing a section of the model.

Machined Kits and Ready to Run Models
Regardless of whether you purchase a machined kit to be built into a complete engine by a member of your staff, or as a ready to be run engine, a working Stuart Model makes for a very useful educational tool.

One of the many uses of our models in education is in the fields of engineering and science, to show how a steam engine works and how the different parts interact together.

A number of science-based courses use our models, (when built into a complete steam plant), to illustrate how steam can be used as a power source. An example of the Stuart Beam steam plant is shown below.
